How to Boost the Immune System Naturally
The lymphatic system is the transportation component of the immune system.
Stimulating the lymphatic system with Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) increases the rate of flow of lymph fluid, antigens, and inflammatory agents to the lymph nodes.
As a result, antigens are put in contact with immunological agents (such as B and T lymphocytes) at a faster rate, because they are transported to the lymph nodes quicker than normal. Increased contact with these agents can increase the rate at which we return to optimal health.
Many clients comment that with regular MLD they experience fewer bouts of flu and colds than usual and often find a reduction in allergic reactions to common environmental allergens. A number of people are also combining MLD with cleansing to aid in ridding their bodies of heavy metals and negative environmental elements. A number of clients have supplemented herbal cleanses, chelation therapy, and other forms of cleansing, with MLD in an attempt to increase the effectiveness of these therapies.
Manual Lymph Drainage was shown to improve immune function in the following study:
Hodge LM, King HH, Williams AG, et al.: Abdominal lymphatic pump treatment increases leukocyte count flux in thoracic duct lymph. Res Biol 2007, 5: 127–134.
The study demonstrates that the MLD lymphatic pump technique performed on the abdominal region significantly increased leukocyte counts.
Absolute & Relative Contra-Indications
Contraindications are conditions or factors that serve as a reason to withhold a certain medical treatment. Due to the effectiveness of Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) in accelerating lymph flow, there are a number of health concerns that do not allow individuals to receive MLD. If you are experiencing any of the following situations, please discuss these with our In Step physiotherapist prior to receiving any treatment:
Untreated Malignant Diseases
Acute Inflammations
Recent Thrombosis
Cardiac Insufficiency
Renal Failure
Frequently Asked Questions
Immune system stimulation treatment may include techniques such as Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) to support lymphatic circulation. By encouraging the movement of lymph fluid, immune system stimulation treatment in Edmonton may help support the body’s natural immune and drainage processes.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage in Edmonton uses gentle, rhythmic techniques designed to encourage lymph fluid movement toward the lymph nodes. This may help support normal lymphatic circulation and the body’s natural immune response.
MLD may be used as part of a wellness approach aimed at supporting healthy lymphatic function. People looking for ways to boost the immune system naturally may consider Manual Lymphatic Drainage alongside healthy sleep, nutrition, hydration, exercise, and appropriate medical care.
The lymphatic system plays an important role in immune function by transporting lymph fluid, immune cells, and other substances throughout the body. Lymphatic drainage therapy in Edmonton is designed to support the natural movement of this fluid through the lymphatic system.
During Manual Lymphatic Drainage treatment, a trained therapist applies gentle, slow, and rhythmic movements to specific areas of the body. These techniques are intended to encourage lymphatic flow without using the deeper pressure associated with traditional massage.
People experiencing lymphatic congestion, swelling, or certain conditions affecting lymphatic circulation may be recommended lymphatic drainage therapy following an appropriate assessment. Suitability depends on individual health history and current medical conditions.
The recommended frequency of Manual Lymphatic Drainage in Edmonton varies depending on the individual’s condition, symptoms, health goals, and response to treatment. A physiotherapist can assess these factors and recommend an appropriate treatment schedule.
No. Immune system stimulation treatment using Manual Lymphatic Drainage may not be appropriate for people with certain medical conditions, including acute inflammation, recent thrombosis, untreated malignant disease, cardiac insufficiency, or renal failure. A healthcare professional should determine whether treatment is suitable.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage therapy is commonly used to support lymphatic circulation and may help manage certain types of swelling or fluid accumulation. The cause of swelling should first be properly assessed to determine whether MLD is appropriate.
Individuals looking for immune system stimulation treatment in Edmonton can consult the physiotherapy team at In Step Physical Therapy in Edmonton. An assessment can help determine whether Manual Lymphatic Drainage or another treatment approach is appropriate for individual needs.
Why People Love Us
I’ve been going to see Lee Saunders for several years for massage thèrepy and he is the best there is. Hands down (so to speak). Salutaris is a very comfortable, clean and welcoming environment. Prices are competitive. Salutaris (and Lee) are well worth visiting.
The most impressive thing about Salutaris is that massage is not just a physical, one dimensional activity. At the clinic, massage is a molding and a healing, a bringing back together of body, mind and soul. I see the goal as wanting to return these three to perfect harmony. I have had a few other massage therapists who are very adept at massage therapy. I have never left feeling as whole as when I leave Salutaris.
I had hip resurfacing done – it’s called the Birmingham procedure – on my right hip. I went for Manual Lymph Drainage treatment to see if it would help my recovery. And it did. I was treated very professionally, but also very gently. I felt comfortable and confident that this was the right place for me to be. And the treatment worked. It made me feel better and certainly helped me recover from surgery more quickly.
I had surgery on my knees. The pain was so intense that people told me it hurt to watch me walk. I knew a little about lymphatic drainage, and thought it might help after surgery. It did. It was fantastic. I could literally see the swelling go down. The therapist drained the equivalent of a bottle of wine in a week. I healed much quicker. The surgeon was amazed I could return to my job, running up and down steel ladders. I’d been terrified I wouldn’t be able to work there again.
When I first came to Salutaris, I was very skeptical of the MLD technique – but was desperate and willing to try anything. My hip and lower legs were agony from an inflamed disc. I tried other forms of massage and acupuncture but nothing was effective. Since I started MLD and massage therapy at Salutaris I’ve got consistently better. I’m now sleeping through the night and am almost completely off pain medication. As a sufferer of chronic low-back pain, I’ve found this has been the most effective treatment by far.
Highly recommend. Nice secretary and they served me well. Felt way better leaving. Her husband had a concussion like me but worse. We had a good talk for like 10 minutes over the phone. So nice of her to take that little extra time and have a great customer bond like that. They truly care about their clients. Give them Your business. Will be seeing you again one day.
